Wednesday, May 20 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:15 p.m.
A talk in French (held in person at the SGNO centre and via Zoom) will be presented by Claudette Proulx on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. (Edmonton time). The topic of the presentation is Pioneer Families of Ripon Who Left for Western Canada. Claudette Proulx, originally from Bonnyville, is a descendant of pioneers who migrated from Ripon to settle in Western Canada. She has conducted extensive historical and genealogical research over several years on the Ripon diaspora in Western Canada. Claudette has also published a series of articles on this topic in the journal L’Écho des Montagnes.
During this conference, Ms. Proulx will present the results of her fascinating research. She will discuss, for example, the reasons behind the families’ migration, their journey westward, their living conditions upon arrival, the challenges they faced while establishing themselves, and their contribution to the founding of the village of Bonnyville, Alberta.
