The presentation is titled "Les Trois sauts de Bison et le Père Lacombe".  Mrs. Champagne will discuss the history of the attack on a Blackfoot camp on December 4, 1865. which gained notoriety due to the presence of Father Albert Lacombe, who was injured during the incident.

During this conference, Mrs. Juliette Champagne, PhD will present the history of the attack on a Blackfoot camp on December 4, 1865 which was very well known because of the presence of Father Albert Lacombe where he was injured, and that for three weeks, rumors spread that he had died during the fight. Although many historians have looked into this story, no one knew exactly where this famous attack took place. Through her research in the letters of Father Hippolyte Beillevaire, historian Juliette Champagne found the answer. She will tell you the mazes of this fascinating, almost mythical episode of our Alberta past.

Born in a French-speaking community in northeastern Alberta, Juliette Champagne specialized in French-language archival documents from Western Canada. She holds a doctorate in history from Laval University and is currently working on the letters of the French missionary Hippolyte Beillevaire, who for 37 years worked with the Métis community of the Bataille River and the settlers who settled in this region. She hopes to be able to publish the manuscript soon. She lives in Edmonton with her partner.
