Wednesday, May 21 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.
A talk (in French and virtual) will be hosted by Mariette Hogue on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at 5 p.m. (Edmonton time). The subject of the presentation: "La migration riponnaise en Alberta au début du XXe siècle"
Mariette Hogue, originally from Morinville, is a descendant of pioneers who migrated from Ripon to settle in the West. She conducted extensive historical and genealogical research over several years on the Ripon diaspora in Alberta. Mariette published a series of articles on this subject in the magazine L’Écho des Montagnes.
During this talk in Zoom format, she will present the results of her fascinating research. She will discuss, for example, the reasons that motivated the families to migrate, their journey to the West, their living conditions upon arrival, the challenges they faced during settlement, and their contributions to the founding of several villages, including Morinville, Legal, Bonnyville, as well as Falher and Girouxville in the Rivière-la-Paix region.
